Everything reminds me of Laney. Last week when I went to the store and saw one of her favorite kind of candies, Cadbury Mini Eggs, it made me think of her. And I had to buy some. On weekends when she came home from college, I would buy them, put a little note on the bag, and hide it in her suitcase. When she would get back to school, she would find her favorite treat, and a note from me telling her how much I loved her (I found out later that she thought I was being corny. And all the while I thought I was being sweet).
After I bought them, it occured to me that I now had a bag of candy and wasn’t sure what to do with it. I thought about how funny it would be to put them up on her grave, then quickly dismissed the idea. Someone would think I was crazy for sure. I had to laugh at the thought that Laney would tell me to just eat them. Because I love them, too. So I did. And thought of her.
So as I continue to see her in so many little things, I want to share one of her favorite quotes. By her favorite coach. Of her favorite team.
“I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle – victorious.”~ Vince Lombardi
It’s funny how everything reminds me of her.
