I remember a day when Laney was off at college. She had posted a status update on Facebook that said something about receiving lots of blessings. I was completely baffled. I had no idea what she was talking about. It happened to be a time when we were going through some rough times.
I called Laney, curious about what she was talking about. I will never forget her response to me. She said, ” Mom! Dad found some work, I don’t have to have surgery, B doesn’t have to have surgery. We have SO many blessings right now!”
What a lesson my 18 year old daughter taught me. That even when things seem hard, and it is easy to get discouraged, we shouldn’t forget to look up. To look for those blessings that we DO have.
When we don’t look up we fail to see the blessings that are right in front of us. Heavenly Father delights to bless us, and when we look for those blessings, we will see them more clearly. The pain and trials may still be there, but they will become more bearable. Even though the thought of getting through the loss of my daughter seems impossible, it isn’t. Not if we continue to look up.
Laney used to sign her journal entries with two things. CTR ( Choose the Right) and ETTE (Endure to the End). And that is just what I plan on doing. Enduring to the end, while finding joy in the journey.
